Well Done to the Friends of Silloth Green

Report by: Graeme Aiken

Whilst the world has been on “pause”, the Friends of Silloth Green has continued to grow!  Thank you so much to all those who have expressed an interest in joining the Wednesday Volunteers whilst we’ve been away.  We are delighted to announce that the Wednesday Volunteer sessions started again on Wednesday 22nd July with a planning session for the new season and a meet and great forVolunteers old and new.  A great chance to see some of our new projects.  The sessions will now continue, with suitable precautions in place to keep everyone safe, every Wednesday at 10am at the Community Garden – we’ll even provide you with some lunch! The committee will be meeting again soon so we can continue with our plans for the new Water Fountain, Fairy Trail, Putting Green and The Cabin – and everything that has been put on hold but not forgotten about – so continue to watch this space. . .In the meantime, we have been busy, especially with our fantastic new allotment!  Huge thanks go to everyone who has donated time and materials to getting this project off the ground.  Most especially to Judith and Jim Scott for all their amazing work in planning the space and the building of a pagoda and seating area that we’re sure will become a Silloth Tourist Attraction in its own right – it really is quite amazing what Jim can do with some old pallets and a bag of nails… (only joking Jim!), this really will be a great asset to our group and the town.  The Allotment is just one project that has been going on recently – so a lot of thanks to pass on.  Firstly, thank you to Silloth Town Council for their very generous donation to The Friends, which will both help the group and support local businesses as life gets back to normal again.  Thank you to Mike Blake for a fantastic donation of bird seed for the new feeders at the Edwardian Toilets and in the Community Garden.  And a massive thank you to the Green’s Maintenance Team – Ken and Dave – who have continued to work tirelessly through this whole period to keep the Green looking as wonderful as ever for us residents to enjoy and now to welcome visitors back to the town.  Terrific job as always guys!  New members are always welcome, so please do come along to the Community Garden at 10am every Wednesday so we can continue to keep the Green looking great for everyone to enjoy – safely in the fresh air.  Let’s Keep on Growing, (and weeding, and sowing and planting…….)
