Queen’s Green Canopy – Platinum Jubilee Bed

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.
Silloth are proud to be taking part in this initiative and the Town Council have agreed for the circular bed on Silloth Green, opposite Christ Church to be replanted. The bed has been cleared of any old shrubs which have had their day, to create a new bed to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. Friends of Silloth Green are planting a selection of new trees and shrubs. Our local Rainbows, Brownies and Guides are also getting involved, with each child planting a tree for the Jubilee.
The bed is being replanted with a cherry tree, birch tree and mountain ash tree for the Queen’s Green Canopy. Another 130 smaller hedgerow trees are also to be planted which will include Hawthorn, Wild Privet, Hazel, Cherry Plum, Guelder Rose, Blackthorn, Scotch Rose, Elderflower, Crab apple, Wild Pear and Buckthorn Alder.
